Elise Poillot

Elise Poillot is full professor of Droit Civil in the Faculty of Law, Economy and Finance of the University of Luxembourg. She has been invited Professor at the University of Georgia (USA), Brescia and Milan (Italy) and has been a member of the Italian national selection committee for full and associate professors of private law (ASN) and of the universities study programmes evaluation committee in Belgium and Québec. She is currently serving on the committee in charge of evaluating the research of Italian Universities (VQR). She is on the editorial board of several law reviews among which the “European Consumer Law Journal”, the Osservatorio di diritto civile e commerciale, Contratto e Impresa Europa and Cliniques Juridiques. and is a member of the scientific committee of the European Network for Clinical Education (ENCLE).

Her main fields of research and teaching have been, in a national comparative and EU perspective, consumer law and general contract law. In the last four years she has been deeply involved in setting up and directing the Consumer Law legal clinic in the University of Luxembourg, a programme that is strongly supported by the national Bar Council and has created a network of similar legal clinics throughout Europe. More recently her research is focused on the transformation of the concept of civil law (droit civil) in civil law jurisdictions and on the impact of data protection on consumer law. She currently works on the topic of consumers profiling as the digitalization of markets and the deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) have opened new gates for profiling customers through the collection of personal data. On all these topics she has extensively written (in French, English and Italian) both monographs and articles published in important law reviews and books edited by leading European scholars. She regularly presents the development of EU jurisprudence in the field of consumer law in the Recueil Dalloz and Journal de Droit Européen.a
