Martin Schmidt-Kessel (Doctorate Freiburg 2001; Habilitation Freiburg 2003) is full Professor of German and European Consumer Law, Private Law and Comparative Law and Director of the Centre for Consumer Law at the University of Bayreuth. He serves as Secretary General of the German Association of Comparative Law. He is Member of the European Law Institute and Associate Member to the International Academy of Comparative Law. Martin Schmidt-Kessel serves as speaker of the Joint Doctorate Verona-Bayreuth in European Legal Studies. He is i.a. founding Editor of the GPR – Zeitschrift für das Privatrecht der Europäischen Union.
