Vesna Crnić-Grotić, professor of International Law and the dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Rijeka, Croatia. She also teaches International Law of the Sea, International Law of Human Rights and the European Convention on Human Rights as well as the Protection of Minorities in International Law. She has published a number of articles dealing with these topics and she has participated in numerous international scientific conferences. She has developed professionally in the USA, The Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland. She has lectured at the universities in Zagreb, Sarajevo, Ljubljana and Strasbourg. Since 1998 she has been a member and the vice-chair and then since 2013 chair of the Committee of Experts of the European Charter for Regional and Minority Languages, an independent body of the Council of Europe in charge of monitoring the Charter’s application. In 2013 – 2015 she was Agent for Croatia at the International Court of Justice in the Genocide Case between Croatia and Serbia. In 2003 and 2012 she was short-listed as a candidate for the judge of the European Court for Human Rights.
